How to use

  1. Enter your height in cm.
  2. Enter your weight in kg.
  3. Choose WHO or Asia-Pacific standard.
  4. Read your BMI, category and healthy weight range.

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². WHO categories: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5–24.9 normal, 25–29.9 overweight, 30 and above obese. The Asia-Pacific standard uses 23 and 25 instead of 25 and 30.

BMI is a screening number, not a diagnosis. Muscle mass, age and body shape can change what is healthy for you.

Frequently asked questions

What is a healthy BMI?

For adults, WHO considers 18.5 to 24.9 healthy. Under the Asia-Pacific standard, 18.5 to 22.9.

Why is there an Asian standard?

Studies found health risks rise at lower BMI in many Asian populations, so lower cut-offs (23 and 25) are often used in Korea, Japan and other countries.

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

Not always. Muscle weighs more than fat, so very muscular people can have a high BMI while being healthy.
